Managing fame requires wisdom, humility and emotional maturity, as the pressures that come with public recognition can have serious consequences if they are not properly managed.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s Nyansapo Fie with host Akosua Gyamfua, Rev. Maxwell Buddie said people who attain fame before they are emotionally and spiritually prepared often struggle with overwhelming pressure, stress and depression.
According to him, individuals who become famous for negative reasons face constant public scrutiny and criticism, causing many to suffer in silence instead of seeking the help they need.
Rev. Buddie cautioned that premature fame can even result in premature death, as some people are unable to cope with the expectations and responsibilities that accompany public recognition. He stressed that success without adequate preparation can ultimately derail a person’s life and purpose.
Drawing lessons from the Bible, he cited Jesus’ instruction to His disciples to remain in the upper room until they received the promised Holy Spirit. He explained that the disciples required divine empowerment before embarking on their mission, adding that those who failed to wait are scarcely remembered. According to him, this highlights the importance of proper preparation before stepping into positions of influence.
He further noted that fame has the power to transform people, warning that even positive recognition can become destructive if it is not managed with humility, discipline and integrity.
Sharing a personal experience from nearly a decade ago, Rev. Buddie recounted visiting a prayer camp where a respected spiritual leader was struggling to complete a church building because of financial constraints. He expressed disappointment that although several well-known media personalities publicly described the woman as their spiritual mother, they did little to support the completion of the project.
He said such actions reflect double standards, where individuals openly associate themselves with spiritual leaders but fail to stand by them in times of need.
Rev. Maxwell Buddie concluded by urging people to pursue spiritual, emotional and mental preparation before seeking fame, emphasizing that lasting success should be accompanied by responsibility, humility and genuine concern for others.
