Minister for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has dismissed reports claiming that Asante Akim North MP Ohene Kwame Frimpong, popularly known as OK Frimpong, has already been extradited to the United States, confirming that the lawmaker remains in custody in the Netherlands.
Providing an update during an engagement on July 27, 2026, Ablakwa said Ghana’s diplomatic mission in The Hague has been working closely with the MP’s legal team, family and Dutch authorities to ensure he receives consular support and that his rights are protected throughout the legal process.
According to the minister, OK Frimpong was detained on May 10, 2026, at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam by Dutch immigration authorities following a United States extradition request.
He stressed that Ghanaian officials are monitoring the case and providing the necessary assistance while the MP challenges the extradition proceedings.
OK Frimpong was arrested in connection with an investigation involving the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Sources familiar with the matter indicate he is being investigated over alleged financial crimes, including money laundering and suspected romance scams involving an estimated US$32 million.
The extradition process remains ongoing, with no official confirmation that the MP has been transferred to the United States.
