Employers who prioritise immediate gains over long-term business growth risk losing valuable employees, Rev. Michael Banson of Holy Fire Revival Ministries has cautioned.
He explained that short-sightedness in the workplace occurs when individuals focus on present benefits and quick results without considering the possible consequences of their decisions.
Speaking on Nyansapo Fie, Plan B FM’s family, relationship and lifestyle programme hosted by Akosua Gyamfua, Rev. Banson noted that some workers compromise integrity by resorting to lies to gain an advantage rather than focusing on quality work. He added that short-sighted decisions can also undermine teamwork, as individuals may favour working with selected people instead of encouraging collaboration and sharing ideas.
He identified delayed salary payments and cutting corners as examples of short-sightedness among employers. According to him, such practices may be driven by greed and an excessive desire for immediate financial benefits, often at the expense of the organisation’s long-term success.
Rev. Banson warned that employers who fail to consider the future consequences of their actions could lose competent workers. He stressed that the motive behind a decision is important in determining whether it is short-sighted, as the intention and possible long-term effects must be carefully examined.
He further observed that short-sightedness can discourage a savings culture because people concentrate on immediate needs and gratification rather than preparing for the future.
He therefore encouraged workers and employers to consider the long-term implications of their decisions, uphold integrity, promote teamwork and avoid sacrificing lasting progress for
