Short-sightedness can affect future decisions — Rev. Benjamin Boateng

Pretence can be used to avoid conflict and punishment — Rev. Benjamin Boateng

Rev. Benjamin Boateng of Cornerstone Chapel, Assemblies of God, Community 9, has urged people to practise self-discipline and consider the future consequences of their decisions to avoid short-sightedness.

Speaking on Nyansapo Fie on Plan B FM, hosted by Akosua Gyamfua. The guest, Rev. Boateng described short-sightedness as the tendency to prioritise immediate rewards without considering the possible consequences. He explained that a person can have clear visions and ambitions but still fail to achieve them because of poor decisions. From a Christian perspective, he associated the behaviour with a lack of spiritual foresight.

He identified careless spending as one example, noting that people who spend their salaries lavishly without prioritising their needs may later struggle financially. He added that spending on unnecessary items, focusing only on immediate enjoyment and taking action at the wrong time can prevent people from making progress towards their goals.

Rev. Boateng explained that the behaviour may be influenced by personal experiences, overconfidence and the desire to enjoy the present while assuming the future will take care of itself. He also noted that intelligence alone does not prevent short-sightedness, as people with high intellectual ability may struggle with emotional intelligence, which can affect their judgement and decisions. He added that failing to do what one is capable of doing can also reflect short-sighted behaviour.

To overcome the problem, Rev. Boateng encouraged people to develop self-discipline, change their mindset and exercise tolerance when dealing with life’s challenges. He stressed the importance of thinking beyond immediate satisfaction and making decisions that support long-term goals.
