The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested 258 suspects in connection with the violent disturbances that erupted at Nsawam-Adoagyiri in the Eastern Region on July 7, 2026.

The arrests were made during a special intelligence-led operation conducted by the Regional Command with support from the National Operations Directorate.

According to a Police statement issued on Thursday, July 9, preliminary investigations indicate that some youth went on a rampage, looting shops, setting an Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) transformer on fire, vandalising the Oko Anadwo Palace and an astro turf facility, and attacking mobile money vendors.

The Service said the incidents created fear and panic among residents and disrupted normal activities in the community.

During the operation, Police officers recovered two locally manufactured firearms, quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, suspected tramadol and Viagra tablets, as well as several mobile phones believed to be linked to the ongoing investigations.

The Police said all 258 suspects remain in custody and are assisting investigators to identify those directly responsible for the various offences committed during the disturbances.

The Eastern South Regional Police Command assured residents that security has been reinforced in the area to ensure the safety of lives and property.

It also appealed to the public to volunteer credible information that could aid investigations and urged residents, particularly the youth, to refrain from acts capable of undermining public peace and security.

The Police reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring that all persons found responsible for the disturbances are brought to justice.
