The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, has announced that the government will not open applications for fresh recruitment into Ghana’s security services in 2027 as it prioritises applicants already awaiting enlistment.
Mr Muntaka said the decision followed instructions from President John Dramani Mahama, explaining that the government intends to clear the backlog of qualified applicants who completed the recruitment process but could not proceed to training because of limited spaces.
Speaking before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee on Tuesday, October 20, the minister confirmed that the recruitment portal would remain closed to new applicants throughout 2027.
“Next year, there will be no new applicants. We are not going to open the portal based on the President’s instructions. We are not going to open the portal for fresh applications,” he said.
He explained that the government would instead select applicants who had successfully completed the recruitment process and met the necessary requirements but were unable to secure places for training.
“We will keep picking from the list until we exhaust it before another application will be allowed,” Mr Muntaka added.
The announcement means prospective applicants hoping to join the security services in 2027 will have to wait, while authorities work through the existing list of qualified candidates.
