The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa to publish the original invoices for three charter flights reportedly procured at a cost of GH¢27 million to evacuate Ghanaians following xenophobic attacks in South Africa.
The party says the documents are necessary to establish the actual cost of the evacuation exercise and allow the public to scrutinise the expenditure.
The NPP Director of Communications, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, made the demand at a press conference in Accra on Sunday, October 18, 2026, insisting that the government must account for the reported amount.
“Publish the original Ethiopia Airlines invoices for all the three flights so we can have some proper conversation with the airlines and ask them questions as to how and why it ripped off this country at such a crucial time,” he said.
The demand comes amid concerns over the management of funds allocated to the evacuation exercise, with the Minority alleging that more than GH¢16 million remains unaccounted for.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has published the names and signatures of Ghanaians evacuated from South Africa, together with records relating to the payment of reintegration and transportation allowances.
However, the NPP insists that publishing the beneficiary records and allowance payments is not enough, maintaining that the original flight invoices are needed to clarify how the reported GH¢27 million was calculated.
The party says the disclosure of the documents would promote transparency and accountability in the use of public funds.
The allegations concerning the flight costs and the amount reportedly unaccounted for remain claims attributed to the NPP and the Minority, respectively.
