The Western Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced the death of its Regional Elections Director, Comrade Papa Assan.

Comrade Papa Assan died in the early hours of Sunday, August 30, 2026, at the GPHA Hospital in Takoradi after a short illness.

In a statement signed by Regional Communications Officer Richard Kirk-Mensah, the party described his death as a major loss to the NDC and the Western Region.

Papa Assan had served as the party’s Regional Elections Director since 2014, where he played a key role in managing the party’s electoral activities.

The Western Regional NDC credited his dedication and expertise in election management with contributing to the party’s strong performance in the 2024 general elections, during which the NDC won 15 of the 17 parliamentary seats in the region.

The party said he served with commitment, loyalty and diligence throughout his tenure.

As part of measures to honour his memory, the Western Regional NDC has directed that all party flags in the region be flown at half-mast for three days.

The party expressed its condolences to his bereaved family, friends, colleagues and members of the NDC, while praying for the peaceful repose of his soul.
