The Ghana Scholarships Authority has announced the release of first-quarter funds to begin settling outstanding scholarship arrears owed to Ghanaian students studying abroad.
In a statement issued in Accra on April 16, the Authority said the Government of Ghana has made allocations to support the payment of delayed stipends and tuition fees, particularly for beneficiaries in the United Kingdom and other countries.
According to the Authority, the intervention forms part of ongoing efforts to address persistent delays that have affected students’ welfare and academic progress. It acknowledged the frustrations of sponsored students and expressed regret over the inconvenience caused.
“The Government remains fully committed to the welfare of Ghanaian students abroad,” the statement emphasized, adding that measures are being implemented to ensure more timely disbursement of funds going forward.
The Authority noted that it is collaborating with key stakeholders to fast-track the processing of payments and minimize future delays. Students have been urged to remain calm and focused on their studies as efforts continue to resolve all outstanding obligations.
Director-General of the Authority, Alex Kwaku Asafo-Agyei, who signed the statement, also expressed appreciation to affected students for their patience and cooperation during the period.
The announcement is expected to bring some relief to hundreds of Ghanaian students abroad who have faced financial strain due to delayed payments in recent months.
