The Government of Ghana has vowed to work with United States authorities to ensure justice is served following the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Ghanaian teenager Javits Badu Kansah Frimpong in the Bronx, New York.
Javits was shot by unidentified assailants at about 9:20 a.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2026, while on his way to school.
In a press statement issued on Friday, October 30, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed that the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, had spoken directly with the deceased’s father, Thomas Frimpong, to express the government’s condolences and assure the family of its support in pursuing justice.
The Minister reportedly assured the bereaved father that the government would do everything possible to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
“We will pursue justice, and we will make sure that those who did this do not get away with it,” Mr Ablakwa stated.
On behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, the Minister also extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, describing the incident as deeply saddening.
Meanwhile, officials from Ghana’s Permanent Mission in New York visited the family at their residence to commiserate with them and convey the government’s solidarity and support.
The Ministry said it would work closely with US authorities through Ghana’s Permanent Mission in New York to pursue justice and provide the family with appropriate legal and consular assistance.
It also called on the relevant authorities in the Bronx to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that those behind the killing are held accountable.
The government further reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the safety, dignity and well-being of Ghanaians wherever they may be.
Javits’ death has left family members and loved ones in both Ghana and the United States mourning, particularly his mother, Doris Adu Gyamfi, who is based in Kumasi.
