The Ghana Police Service has rescued nine victims of alleged human trafficking and arrested 10 suspects following an intelligence-led operation targeting a suspected cyber-enabled fraud syndicate at Mataheko-Afienya in the Tema Region.
Speaking at a press conference, Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Lydia Yaako Donkor, said the operation was conducted by the Tema Regional Police Command through its Regional Police Intelligence Directorate after weeks of intelligence gathering.
She disclosed that the suspects were arrested during a raid on an apartment believed to have served as the group’s operational base. Police retrieved 28 laptop computers and nine mobile phones suspected to have been used in internet-related fraudulent activities.
According to the CID Director-General, preliminary investigations identified Collins Francis Olai Ojo as the alleged leader of the syndicate. He is accused of coordinating the group’s operations from the Tema hideout and facilitating the movement of nine Nigerian nationals into Ghana by road for exploitation in cyber-enabled fraud.
The nine victims have since been rescued and relocated to a secure facility where they are receiving the necessary care and support while investigations continue.
The suspects arrested are Collins Francis Olai Ojo, Mathew Balogun, Jahid Bello, Abdul Rahman Nufizi, Talent Sinivi, Pray Morrison, Lawal Abdul Aziz, David Ogoguna, Gift Prince and Kingsley Honest.
Police further disclosed that Collins Francis Olai Ojo has been arraigned before the Accra High Court and remanded into police custody pending the outcome of investigations.
