Asante Kotoko Sporting Club has fined assistant coach Diogo Peral following an incident during the club’s Ghana Premier League Matchday 9 encounter against Medeama SC.
Peral was allegedly involved in an assault on Medeama SC player Ebenezer Adade during the match, an incident that has attracted attention following the fixture.
In a statement, Asante Kotoko acknowledged the incident and said the coach had admitted that he could have handled the situation better and conducted himself more professionally.
The club noted that although football was an emotional sport where tensions could sometimes run high, such emotions should never compromise the professionalism, discipline and respect expected of everyone representing the institution.
Kotoko stressed that the assistant coach’s conduct did not reflect the standards and values of the club, prompting it to impose a fine as part of its internal disciplinary measures.
The club said the decision was intended to reinforce its commitment to discipline, professionalism and accountability.
Asante Kotoko further reaffirmed its commitment to fair play and mutual respect, both on and off the pitch, while appealing to its supporters and stakeholders to continue supporting the team as it pursues its objectives for the season.
