Marital infidelity can affect not only couples but also their children, finances, work and spiritual lives, Rev. Manful has cautioned, highlighting its wider consequences for families and those around them.
Speaking on managing the effects of marital infidelity at home, school and church on Nyansapo Fie, Plan B FM’s family, relationship and lifestyle programme hosted by Akosua Gyamfua, Rev. Manful explained that unfaithfulness does not affect only the marriage but also other people involved in the couple’s lives.
He noted that marital infidelity destroys commitment and trust, which can take considerable time to rebuild. According to him, the situation can affect the workplace, finances and children, who may become traumatised and experience disruptions in their development when their parents face marital challenges.
Rev. Manful described marriage as an institution established by God, explaining that Satan seeks to introduce doubt, anxiety and bitterness into marriages, with the ultimate aim of breaking the marriage. He cautioned that such challenges can begin with seemingly small arguments that gradually create problems within the relationship.
He further emphasised the importance of forgiveness, noting that although partners should be willing to forgive, refusing to do so can affect their peace of mind. He also warned that marital infidelity can lead to spiritual discouragement and affect people beyond the couple, including pastors.
Rev. Manful encouraged couples facing infidelity to pray and seek spiritual support, adding that complaining can create opportunities for the enemy to influence their lives. He stressed that prayer remains important when dealing with marital challenges.
On the role of the church, he urged church leaders to avoid judging couples experiencing infidelity and instead approach them respectfully. He advised them to speak to the partners separately and privately, provide support and consider professional assistance, including psychotherapy, where necessary.
