The Ghana Football Association (GFA), in consultation with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, has appointed Kim Lars Björkegren to lead the Black Stars’ interim technical team for their November international fixture against Somalia.
Björkegren will work alongside Ibrahim Tanko and Godwin Attram as assistant coaches, while former Ghana goalkeeper Fatawu Dauda has been appointed goalkeepers’ coach.
The appointments follow a recommendation by the Black Stars Coach Search Committee after an extensive review of candidates and consultations aimed at identifying the best technical leadership for the national team during its current transition period.
In a joint statement, the GFA, the Ministry and the Search Committee said the interim arrangement was intended to provide continuity, experienced leadership and strategic direction as the Black Stars prepare for the upcoming international window.
They expressed confidence that the technical team’s combination of international experience, local knowledge and technical expertise would provide the necessary support to prepare the team effectively.
Additional technical and support staff are expected to be appointed to strengthen the team’s preparations for the November fixtures.
The joint statement emphasised that the interim appointment applies specifically to the November international window, with the Coach Search Committee continuing its work in accordance with its mandate.
The Ministry, the GFA and the Search Committee also reaffirmed their commitment to providing the Black Stars and the Black Queens with the technical and operational support needed to achieve their respective objectives during the upcoming international period.
They have called on Ghanaians to rally behind the team and support the players and technical staff as they prepare to represent the country.
