The Marine Police in Kpando have arrested a 31-year-old man, identified as Vincent Lotsu, for the alleged unlawful cultivation and possession of suspected cannabis in the Volta Region.

According to a press release issued by the Volta North Regional Police Command on Friday, October 16, 2026, the arrest followed a routine patrol by officers of the Marine Police Unit on Tuesday, October 13.

During the patrol, the officers reportedly discovered a fenced wooden structure along the Volta Lake at Mangoase in the Central Tongu District.

A search behind the fenced structure led to the discovery of a plantation of suspected Indian hemp, alongside 16 sacks of dried leaves believed to be cannabis.

The suspect and the exhibits have since been handed over to the Kpando Police Divisional Investigation Department for further investigations.

The suspected narcotic substances have also been sent to the police crime laboratory for examination.

Vincent Lotsu remains in police custody to assist with ongoing investigations and is expected to be arraigned before court.

The Volta North Regional Police Command has reiterated its commitment to intensifying the fight against drug trafficking and related offences, warning individuals involved in such activities to desist immediately.

The statement was signed by Inspector Felix Kwao, Public Relations Officer of the Volta North Region Police Command.
