Hearts of Oak head coach Nebojša Kapor has raised concerns over the state of football pitches in Ghana, insisting that the University of Ghana Stadium, where his side secured a 1-0 victory over Port City, is a national facility and not the club’s personal property.
Kapor made the remarks after the Phobians’ narrow win over Port City, using the opportunity to highlight what he considers a major challenge facing Ghanaian football.
“This is not our stadium; it’s a national stadium. Ghana football has serious problems with proper pitches,” he said.
The Serbian tactician’s comments have renewed attention on the condition of football infrastructure in the country and the need for suitable playing surfaces to support the development of the game.
Quality pitches are essential for players to express themselves, execute tactical instructions and compete under appropriate conditions. Poor playing surfaces can also affect the quality of matches and increase concerns about player safety.
Kapor’s remarks come amid broader discussions about the standard of football facilities in Ghana and the responsibility of relevant authorities to ensure that stadiums and training grounds meet the needs of clubs and players.
Despite the concerns, Hearts of Oak left the University of Ghana Stadium with all three points after edging Port City 1-0.
