Baffoe Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Athletics, has encouraged schools and young people aspiring to excel in athletics to remain committed to developing their talents while prioritising their education.
Speaking to Okocha on Plan B FM’s Kawadwen Sports, Mr Ahmed urged young athletes not to abandon their sporting ambitions, stressing the importance of pursuing their dreams with dedication and perseverance.
He advised young talents to combine athletics with education, noting that balancing the two would help them improve their prospects and secure a better future.
His comments come as Ghana Athletics prepares to compile its official 2027 athletics calendar, inviting event organisers, schools, institutions, corporate organisations and promoters to submit proposed dates and details of their competitions for consideration.
In a press release, Ghana Athletics called on stakeholders organising track and field competitions as well as road races in 2027 to submit their proposals on or before November 30, 2026.
The submissions are expected to include the name of the event, proposed date or dates, venue, category of competition, organiser or promoter, contact details and other relevant information.
The association said the exercise was intended to help coordinate the national competition calendar, minimise clashes between events and ensure the effective development and administration of athletics activities across the country.
Ghana Athletics further cautioned that events organised without prior notification or approval could attract penalties under its regulations and competition policies.
The association has therefore encouraged all stakeholders to comply with the directive to ensure their competitions are properly captured in the official 2027 calendar.
The publication of the calendar will serve as the official reference for sanctioned and recognised athletics competitions throughout the year, as Ghana Athletics works towards improving coordination and promoting the sustainable development of the sport.
