The Ghana Police Service has cautioned the public to remain vigilant against criminals who target people after they withdraw money from banks, particularly motorists who leave cash and other valuables in their vehicles.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s family, relationship and lifestyle programme, Nyansapo Fie, hosted by Akosua Gyamfua, Commander of the Community 2 Police Station, Chief Superintendent Ebenezer Tetteh, said the police had observed a pattern in which criminals allegedly monitor individuals carrying money, electronic gadgets and other valuables.
According to him, some criminals may monitor potential victims at banking halls and follow them after they leave the premises.
Chief Superintendent Tetteh explained that while an individual inside a bank may appear to be conducting an ordinary transaction, criminals could allegedly be working with accomplices to identify and track potential targets.
He therefore urged the public to consider cashless transactions where possible and avoid carrying large amounts of cash in their vehicles.
He also advised motorists to remain alert to their surroundings and refrain from leaving money, mobile phones, laptops and other valuables in visible areas of their vehicles.
The police commander recommended that valuables be kept in secure compartments where they are not easily accessible or visible to passers-by.
Chief Superintendent Tetteh further encouraged the public to conduct appropriate background or criminal checks before employing individuals, particularly those who may have access to their homes, vehicles or personal belongings.
He stressed that taking preventive measures and remaining vigilant could help reduce the risk of falling victim to vehicle break-ins and other related crimes.
