Pastor Sidio Gido has urged employees going through grief to communicate with their managers or Human Resource departments to receive the necessary support while navigating their loss.
According to him, grief can significantly affect an individual’s ability to concentrate and perform routine tasks at the workplace, even when the person remains committed to their responsibilities.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s family, relationship and lifestyle programme, Nyansapo Fie, hosted by Akosua Gyamfua, Pastor Gido explained that grieving employees may struggle with mental clarity, forgetfulness and a loss of focus.
He noted that such challenges should not necessarily be interpreted as incompetence, explaining that grief can consume significant emotional and mental energy.
Pastor Gido therefore encouraged employees experiencing difficult periods to speak to their managers or HR departments rather than suffering silently.
He said open communication could help employers understand what the employee is going through and provide appropriate support, including temporary adjustments to responsibilities or access to workplace wellness resources.
He also advised grieving employees to be mindful of how much personal information they share with colleagues, stressing the importance of finding a balance between seeking support and maintaining professional boundaries.
Pastor Gido said creating compassionate workplaces requires understanding and effective communication between employees and management.
He added that by creating an environment where grief can be openly acknowledged and appropriately managed, workplaces can better support employees as they recover while maintaining their professional responsibilities.
