Reverend Benjamin Boateng of the Cornerstone Chapel of Assemblies of God, Community 9, has urged people experiencing grief to take steps to manage their emotions and avoid allowing sorrow to take over their lives.
Speaking on Nyansapo Fie on Plan B FM, hosted by Akosua Gyamfua, Rev. Boateng described grief as a deep emotional, physical and psychological response to significant loss, including the death of a loved one, loss of employment or other major changes in life.
He explained that grief can manifest through sorrow, tears, emotional pain and withdrawal from others, stressing that grieving is a normal part of life and cannot be completely avoided.
According to him, however, prolonged or overwhelming grief can affect a person’s wellbeing if not properly managed.
Rev. Boateng identified different forms of grief, including normal grief, anticipatory grief, complicated grief and accumulated grief, which he described as grief overload. He added that even a wrong decision can sometimes become a source of grief.
On how to cope with grief, Rev. Boateng encouraged individuals to gradually shift their attention away from the source of their sorrow and take deliberate steps to manage their emotions.
He urged people going through difficult periods to learn to let go and move forward, noting that holding on to sorrow for too long could create additional challenges.
Rev. Boateng stressed that while grief is an inevitable part of life, people must learn to manage it and continue with their lives rather than allowing it to completely consume them.
