PassionAir has explained that its Kumasi-bound flight OP 142 returned to Accra twice on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of passengers and crew.
According to the airline, the flight, which was travelling from Accra to Kumasi, initially returned to base after the captain decided that the aircraft should undergo precautionary checks by the engineering team.
PassionAir said an issue identified during the initial return was subsequently addressed, after which the aircraft was cleared for operation.
The flight, operating as OP 142A, then departed Accra for Kumasi. However, the captain later decided to return the aircraft to Accra as a further precaution.
In a statement issued on Thursday, September 17, PassionAir said such decisions are taken in the interest of safety, noting that technical defects can occur on aircraft.
“Defects happen on aircraft, and this decision was taken in the interest of safety,” the airline stated.
PassionAir apologised to affected passengers for the inconvenience and disruption caused by the two air returns.
The airline assured passengers and the general public that the safety of its passengers and crew remains its highest priority.
It added that it operates in compliance with applicable aviation safety standards and regulatory requirements and would continue taking measures to minimise disruptions while ensuring that flights are operated safely.
PassionAir also thanked affected passengers for their patience, understanding and continued trust in the airline.
