Three female students of Ghana Senior High School (GHANASCO) in Tamale have developed and demonstrated locally produced remedies aimed at tackling the growing challenge of bedbug infestation in senior high schools across the country.
The students used locally available materials and ingredients to prepare different formulations, which they subsequently tested to determine their effectiveness against bedbugs.
According to the students, their various formulations were able to kill the insects within a few minutes of application.
They believe the innovation could provide an affordable and locally sourced solution to the persistent bedbug problem confronting several senior high schools.
The initiative also highlights the potential of young Ghanaian students to develop practical solutions to challenges within their communities through innovation and scientific research.
The students are hopeful that further testing and support could help refine the formulations and assess their suitability for wider use.
