In a Facebook post dated May 15, 2026, Sarpong responded to remarks made by the MP’s mother, who had reportedly suggested that the NPP might be connected to her son’s difficulties. Sarpong dismissed the claim outright, arguing that the issue is purely personal and has nothing to do with the governing party.
He stated that the mother’s allegations make little sense, questioning why she would not have reported any threat to the police if someone truly intended to harm her son. According to Sarpong, she should focus on her son’s situation and stop trying to involve the NPP in what he called a “family mess.” He insisted that neither the party nor its leadership has any connection to the MP’s detention or the alleged domestic violence case in the United Kingdom.

Sarpong further pointed out that Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor, a prominent member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), had already disclosed that the NDC’s parliamentary majority had hired a lawyer in The Hague to represent Frimpong. For Sarpong, this proves that the matter is being handled within NDC circles, not by the NPP.
Reinforcing his position, Sarpong warned the MP’s mother to think twice if anyone had advised her to pull the NPP into the dispute. He concluded bluntly that the NPP is not part of the equation and advised her to remain silent.
His comments have intensified public debate about the MP’s detention and the growing political tensions surrounding the case. While some sympathize with the mother’s concerns, others agree with Sarpong that personal legal issues should not be automatically politicized.
The situation highlights a broader trend in Ghanaian politics, where controversies involving public officials often turn into partisan conflicts. Sarpong’s remarks aim to draw a clear line between private matters and political responsibility.
Public reactions are mixed. NPP supporters feel the party is being unfairly blamed, while critics argue that Sarpong’s language was unnecessarily harsh toward a worried mother. Regardless, his statement underscores the deep political divisions in Ghana and the challenge of separating personal disputes from party politics.
