I will keep disrespecting the Judge” – Minority Leader defies court in fiery rant

Afenyo urges Muslims to vote for Bawumia to seize a rare chance at having a Muslim president

Ghana’s Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has launched an extraordinary attack on a judge at Accra Circuit Court 9, declaring openly that the judge “can never have my respect.” In a statement that has quickly spread online, the outspoken lawmaker dared the court to summon him for contempt, vowing to continue his defiance until the judge “upholds the law.”

According to the post from The1957news, Afenyo-Markin made it clear he is unafraid of legal consequences. “I pray he summons me for contempt,” he said, adding that he will persist in disrespecting the judge. The Minority Leader’s words mark a rare and intense public confrontation between a senior politician and a sitting judge.

The lawmaker’s frustration appears to stem from a belief that the judge is failing to apply the law correctly. While the post does not specify the exact case or ruling that triggered the outburst, Afenyo-Markin framed his stance as a principled fight for justice. “I will continue to disrespect him until he upholds the law,” he insisted, signaling a deliberate strategy of public defiance.

Legal experts note that openly declaring intent to disrespect a judge could amount to contempt of court, which carries penalties including fines or imprisonment. The standoff raises serious questions about judicial authority and political accountability in Ghana. For now, Afenyo-Markin shows no sign of backing down, daring the very institution he criticizes to act.
