Former Ododiodio MP and NDC National Chairman aspirant, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has issued an unreserved apology to GoldBod Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over comments he made during a television discussion.

Vanderpuye, in a statement dated August 20, 2026, said he had reflected on his remarks and acknowledged that he failed to communicate his intended position appropriately.

His comments on Citi TV came amid growing controversy over a public exchange between Sammy Gyamfi and Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin concerning allegations surrounding GoldBod’s Domestic Gold Purchase Programme.

Vanderpuye had criticised the tone used by Sammy Gyamfi in responding to Afenyo-Markin, saying he would have handled the matter differently and used more measured language on a public platform.

The remarks subsequently attracted criticism from sections of the NDC, with some party members accusing him of appearing to undermine the GoldBod CEO at a time when he was facing attacks from the opposition.

In his apology, however, Vanderpuye clarified that he never intended to condemn or undermine Sammy Gyamfi or support attacks against him and GoldBod.

He said his actual intention was to defend the work of GoldBod and the efforts of Sammy Gyamfi, but acknowledged that the manner in which he expressed himself created a different impression.

Vanderpuye also offered a direct apology to Sammy Gyamfi, describing him as a dedicated NDC member who had served the party with courage and commitment and deserved the support of party members.

He further apologised to the NDC leadership, members and grassroots who felt disappointed or hurt by his comments.

According to him, party leaders and individuals aspiring to greater responsibility within the NDC are expected to demonstrate solidarity, sound judgment and loyalty, particularly when the party and its appointees come under political attack.

Vanderpuye also used the statement to reaffirm his commitment to the NDC, describing the party as his political home.

He said his loyalty and commitment to the party’s cause remained unwavering.
