UCC mourns two in tragic road accident

The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has been thrown into mourning following the tragic death of two members of its academic community in a road accident.

In an official statement issued on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, the university confirmed that Dr. Kwabena Koforobuor Agyemang, a Senior Lecturer, and Mr. Peter Amoadu-Asmah, a Teaching Assistant, lost their lives in a motor accident at Third Ridge along the Cape Coast–Accra highway.

According to the statement, Dr. Agyemang was a respected member of the Department of Geography and Regional Planning, known for his dedication to teaching, research, and service. The university described his passing as a significant loss, noting that his contributions and commitment to academic excellence would be deeply missed by colleagues and students alike.

Mr. Amoadu-Asmah, who recently graduated from the same department, was recognized for his academic brilliance, having emerged as the overall best graduating student. His death, the statement added, is a painful blow to the department and the broader university community.

UCC management expressed profound sorrow over the incident and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. The university also urged the public, particularly the media, to exercise discretion and sensitivity in reporting the tragedy.

The passing of the two has left a deep void within the institution, with tributes expected to pour in from across the academic community.
