VIP bus destroyed by fire at Abuakwa; passengers escape unhurt
A VIP bus travelling from Kumasi to Sunyani has been completely destroyed by fire at Abuakwa in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The incident occurred shortly after the bus left the Kumasi station, with passengers reportedly noticing smoke coming from the vehicle.
The situation worsened when the bus reached the Abuakwa stretch of the Kumasi-Sunyani road, forcing passengers to quickly disembark before the vehicle was engulfed in flames.
An eyewitness, Ofori Boateng, said the exact cause of the fire had not yet been established, although there were suspicions that the engine may have overheated.
He said the bus was completely consumed by fire within minutes after it began emitting smoke.
Fortunately, all passengers managed to evacuate the vehicle safely, with no casualties recorded. However, the bus and property belonging to passengers were destroyed.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality responded to the incident and worked to extinguish the fire, but the vehicle had already suffered extensive damage.
The incident also caused heavy traffic on the Abuakwa stretch of the Kumasi-Sunyani road, prompting the police to deploy personnel to manage traffic and ease congestion.
Authorities are yet to establish the exact cause of the fire.
