Health Minister calls for clear separation between boards and management

Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has stressed that the day-to-day running of health institutions is not the responsibility of boards or board members.

According to him, boards and management must understand and respect their respective roles to ensure effective governance and prevent interference in the daily administration of health institutions.

The Minister made the remarks on the second day of the Ministry of Health’s High-Level Mid-Year Review Retreat in Ho, where participants are undergoing training on corporate governance and the role of boards.

Mr. Akandoh said good governance was critical to ensuring that public resources are used effectively to improve the well-being of Ghanaians.

He also reiterated his commitment to ensuring that health agencies have the necessary systems in place to promote good governance and accountability.

The Health Minister urged health institutions to exercise greater prudence in the use of public resources, particularly expenditure on seminars, training programmes and official travel.

He stressed that spending decisions must take into consideration the country’s resource constraints and contribute meaningfully to improved institutional performance.

Mr. Akandoh said the training would help participants better understand governance principles, avoid institutional infractions and make decisions that promote accountability and effective management.

He encouraged participants to actively engage in the training and gain a clear understanding of their respective roles and responsibilities in the management and governance of health institutions.
