Ghanaian Peacekeepersi Injured in Missile Attack in Southern Lebanon

Two Ghanaian soldiers serving under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) have been critically injured following a missile attack on a Ghanaian battalion position in southern Lebanon.

According to a press release issued by the Ghana Armed Forces on March 6, 2026, the incident occurred amid the ongoing exchanges between the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the militant group Hezbollah in the region.

The statement said the Ghanaian Battalion Headquarters operating under UNIFIL came under two missile attacks between 1745 and 1752 hours local time on Friday.

Two soldiers were critically injured, while another personnel was left traumatised. The attack also struck the Officers’ Mess facility, which was completely burnt down.

Military authorities indicated that the injured personnel are currently receiving treatment at a Level One Medical Bunker and are reported to be stable. Arrangements are underway to evacuate them to the UNIFIL Headquarters Referral Hospital for further medical care.

The Ghana Armed Forces assured the public that the situation remains under control, adding that troops stationed at the base are currently safe in underground bunkers.

Meanwhile, the Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has lodged a protest at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, condemning the incident and urging all parties involved in the conflict to respect their obligations toward the safety of peacekeepers operating in the area.

The statement was signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations for the Ghana Armed Forces.
