The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that all public pre-tertiary schools across the country will be closed on Friday, November 7, 2025, to enable teachers to participate in the National Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Day.

The directive, issued under the auspices of the Ministry of Education (MoE), designates November 7 as a CPD Day — a dedicated period for teachers’ professional growth and training.

This follows GES’ ongoing efforts to enhance teacher competence and educational outcomes nationwide.

According to the statement, this term’s CPD training will focus on Cybersecurity and Data Protection, an increasingly vital area for educators in the digital age.

GES emphasized that the session will count toward teachers’ license renewal and annual CPD credit requirements, in accordance with the National Teaching Council (NTC) guidelines.

“The training will focus on Cybersecurity and Data Protection, and will count towards license renewal and annual Continuous Professional Development credit requirements,” the statement noted.

GES has directed Regional and District Directors of Education, teacher unions, and education associations to ensure that all staff are informed and fully participate in the nationwide exercise.

A post by the GES management on its official social media platforms also confirmed that schools will be closed to give teachers adequate time to attend the training without distraction.

“In connection with the upcoming National CPD Day on November 7, 2025, management of GES has directed that all public pre-tertiary schools should be closed on that day to enable all teachers to fully participate,” the post said.

The Continuous Professional Development (CPD) programme, developed by the National Teaching Council (NTC), is a point-based system designed to support teachers’ lifelong learning.

It includes diverse learning experiences such as workshops, online courses, research, and seminars, all aimed at improving teachers’ professional skills and classroom delivery.

Earlier this year, the first CPD Day for 2025 was observed on Friday, March 28, focusing on Mental Health and Teacher Well-being.

That session equipped teachers with skills to manage stress, build resilience, and promote positive learning environments.

In preparation for the November CPD Day, GES officials, including Director-General Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, Deputy Director-General (Management Services) Prof. Smile Dzisi, and Guidance and Counselling Director Mrs. Gifty Bremansu, are expected to lead monitoring teams across the regions to ensure smooth implementation.

Other top officials, such as the Greater Accra Regional Director Hajia Katumi Natogma Attah and various municipal directors, will also visit schools to supervise and observe the training process.

The November 7 CPD Day will mark the second and final nationwide professional training for teachers in 2025, reaffirming the Service’s dedication to teacher welfare and capacity-building in support of national educational goals.
