The Ghana Education Service (GES) says candidates who sat this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will begin selecting their Senior High Schools (SHSs) and other second-cycle institutions on Monday, July 20, 2026, with the exercise ending on Friday, August 7, 2026.
“Please note that the BECE candidates will start selecting their schools from Monday, July 20, to Friday, August 7, 2026,” GES stated.
The selection period forms part of this year’s Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS), which places qualified BECE candidates into SHSs, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, and other second-cycle schools nationwide.
Ahead of the exercise, GES is training Regional, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Directors of Education on the 2026 school selection guidelines and placement procedures.
The training will take place from July 15 to July 28, 2026, at Regional Education Offices across the country.
In a statement to Regional Directors dated July 6, 2026, Prince C. Agyemang-Duah, Director of the Schools and Instruction Division (Secondary), said the sessions are intended to deepen officials’ understanding of the guidelines to enable them to effectively supervise the placement process.
He directed Regional Directors to disseminate the information to their district-level counterparts and ensure full participation in the training.
According to GES, the exercise is aimed at ensuring consistent guidance for candidates and parents, reducing errors during the school selection process, and promoting the uniform application of the guidelines nationwide.
