Unemployed nurses, midwives to hold peaceful protest over delays in posting

Graduate nurses and midwives in Ghana who have completed their training but have been unable to find employment will take to the streets on Tuesday, April 16, in a peaceful protest to draw attention to their plight.

Speaking to Madam Sarah Mensah the Public Relation Officer
PRO for Graduate Nurse and Midwives on Plan B FM’s morning show NKOSUONSEM hosted by Obidehye Kofi Sekyi, the PRO stressed that the Graduate Unemployed Nurses and Midwives Association has thousands of healthcare graduates have been unemployed for 3-4 years after obtaining their degrees and certifications.

“Graduate Nurses and Midwives are tired of waiting for employment opportunities after 3-4 years of staying home. We believe it’s time for action,” the PRO said.

“We deserve the opportunity to serve our communities and Ghana at large as our motherland to fulfill our passion for healthcare,” she fumed.

The PRO indicated that, they will march from the Ridge bus terminal in Accra to the Ministry of Health, Parliament House, and Ministry of Finance to “make their voices heard” and present their situation to the relevant authorities.

Madam Sarah Mensah stressed that the protest would be peaceful in nature and called on participants to adhere to principles of non-violence and respect local laws.
