Your interest comes second – Inusah Fuseini on party footsoldiers who are ‘hungry and angry’

Ghanaian politician and former NDC executive, Inusah Fuseini, has a messaged for party footsoldiers who are hungry and angry over government appointments.

He stressed the importance of prioritizing party goals over individual ambitions when it comes to political appointments.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghanamonitored by MyNewsGh, he acknowledged that party members naturally have expectations, but highlighted that these must align with collective objectives.

“When you work for the party, aspirations are fine,” Fuseini said. “Our constitution itself, in Chapter Six, encourages aspirational principles.

“But the collective interest comes first. The state’s resources are distributed guided by policy, not individual desire.”

Fuseini recalled the NDC’s internal approach to appointments during past administrations. Committees were set up to determine regional and gender balance, ensuring fairness while meeting national objectives. He explained that appointment decisions are not left solely to the flag bearer.

“The flag bearer cannot simply decide who gets what. There’s a structured regime, a formula that ensures balance and fairness while respecting party principles,” he said.

Fuseini emphasized that party members’ contributions are recognized but should not overshadow the party’s cohesion.

“We must avoid situations where supporters feel demoralized because others who were less involved appear to gain prominent positions. That’s why discretion is crucial,” he said.
