The 1976 year group of Tema Parents Association School has renovated the school’s preschool playground by installing a modern astro turf surface and donating 50 240-litre dustbins to promote environmental cleanliness.

The donation forms part of activities marking the group’s 50th anniversary since leaving the school and coincides with the school’s end-of-term Awards and Recognition Day.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, leader of the 1976 year group, Mrs. Lovia Boateng, said the alumni were inspired to undertake the project after noticing the poor condition of the preschool playground.
“The playground for the children needed a bit of help. We couldn’t continue to watch our grandchildren play in the sand, so we decided to carpet the entire 400-square-metre playground with astro turf. We also donated 50 240-litre dustbins to help the children understand the importance of cleanliness and proper sanitation,” she said.
Mrs. Boateng noted that the project reflects the alumni’s commitment to giving back to the institution that nurtured them. She added that the group intends to undertake more development projects in the future and encouraged other alumni year groups to support the school’s growth through similar initiatives.
The Head of the Preschool Department, Mrs. Irene Laryea, expressed appreciation to the 1976 year group for their generous gesture. She assured the alumni that the facilities would be well maintained and put to good use, while jokingly describing herself as an “Oliver Twist” as she appealed for even more support in the future.
Headmistress Madam Docia Abakosoyo Addison also thanked the former students for their generous contribution, describing the project as a major boost to the school’s learning environment.
She called on other alumni groups, corporate organisations and individuals to emulate the gesture by supporting infrastructure development and other initiatives aimed at improving teaching and learning at Tema Parents Association School.
