The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has suspended Mr. Daniel Nortey from all media appearances and public engagements on behalf of the party until further notice following remarks he made during a televised discussion on allegations of sexual abuse against the Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School.
In a statement dated October 22, 2026, the party’s National Communication Bureau said it had noted with “serious concern and distaste” Nortey’s comments on the matter.
The NDC reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on sexual abuse and all forms of sexual exploitation, particularly those involving the safety, dignity and welfare of children.
The party condemned remarks that trivialise allegations of sexual abuse or undermine the seriousness with which such matters must be treated.
While acknowledging Nortey’s unreserved apology for his comments, the Communication Directorate stressed the need for responsible public commentary, especially on sensitive issues involving alleged sexual abuse.
It further stated that such matters must be handled with sensitivity, respect for due process and a commitment to accountability, rather than being reduced to partisan debate.
Consequently, the party announced Nortey’s immediate suspension from all media appearances and public engagements undertaken in its name, effective until further notice.
The NDC reaffirmed its commitment to protecting women and children and ensuring that allegations of sexual abuse are treated with the seriousness they deserve and handled in accordance with the law.
