The fight against galamsey (illegal mining) in Ghana has reached a critical point, with communities urging the government to declare a state of emergency. Despite prolonged efforts to combat the menace, galamsey operators continue to wreak havoc on the environment, destroying farms, foodstuffs, and water bodies ¹.

Nana Effah Openaman,Obomeng Hene, speaking on the Ebaanosen show on Plan B 104.5 FM, emphasized the need for 24-hour protection, citing the cat-and-mouse game between galamsey operators and law enforcement. “When they are sacked by the police during the day, they come back in the evening,” he lamented.

The call for government intervention is rooted in the devastating impact of galamsey on communities.
