SHS Students To Be Awarded Diploma Certificates After Completion – Mr. Edward Konadu

Public relations officer of the West Akyem Municipal Education Directorate Mr. Edward Konadu has disclosed that students in the various second cycle institutions in the country will be awarded diploma Certificates after successful completion of their programmes.

In an interview with Plan B FM on the Breakfast Show dubbed Nkosuo Nsem, Mr. Konadu revealed that this initiative was in line with the Ghana Education Service (GES) new Educational reforms set to take off in the 2020/21 academic year.

“This initiative is a laudable one, we expect our SHS students to be equipped and get something meaningful to better their lives after they’ve left school” 

 “For instance, we all know Kindergarten, Primary, JHS and SHS are described as basic schools,

“JHS 1,2,3 and SHS 1 is now referred to as BS 7,8.9 and 10 respectively that is SHS 1 shall now be called BS 10” He explained

“All students in JHS 1 to SHS 1 now run a common core programme called CCP which comprises of 9 subjects; namely Mathematics, languages, science, RME, Physical and Health Education which is (not examinable), Career Technology, Social Studies, Computing and Creative Art and Design.”

“A new examination called National Standard Assessment Test (NSAT) is now conducted at primary 2,4, 6 and JHS 2, Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will now be replaced by placement exams at JHS 3 to enroll students into SHS 1.”

“WASSCE is now replaced by university entrance exams at SHS3 and students after successful completion of SHS are to be rewarded a diploma Certificate instead of WASSCE certificate”, He concluded.
