Short-sightedness can undermine family stability and church growth — Rev. Benjamin Boateng

Pretence can be used to avoid conflict and punishment — Rev. Benjamin Boateng

Short-sighted decisions at home and in church can create long-term challenges when people focus on immediate satisfaction without considering future consequences, Rev. Benjamin Boateng has cautioned.

He made the observation while discussing short-sightedness on Nyansapo Fie, Plan B FM’s family, relationship and lifestyle programme, hosted by Akosua Gyamfua. The guest, Rev. Boateng highlighted several ways short-sightedness can affect family life, including financial impulsivity, neglect of maintenance, unhealthy eating habits and passive parenting.

He explained that financial impulsivity involves spending money on immediate wants without considering future needs. Similarly, neglecting regular maintenance can lead to bigger problems over time, while poor eating habits may affect a person’s health in the long run.

Rev. Boateng also identified passive parenting as another form of short-sightedness in the home, where parents may fail to take an active role in guiding and nurturing their children, potentially affecting their development.

Turning to the church, he highlighted the failure to plan for leadership succession as a form of short-sightedness that can affect continuity and future growth. He also pointed to superficial engagement in church activities, which may prevent members from developing deeper and more meaningful involvement.

Rev. Boateng emphasised the importance of looking beyond immediate needs and making decisions that support the long-term well-being of families and the growth of the church.
