The Media Officer of Ghana’s national amputee football team, the Black Challenge, Theophilus Sampah, says the team is determined to reach the final and win the 2026 World Amputee Football Championship in Mexico.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s Pae Mu Ka Sports show, hosted by Dan K. Pobi Okocha, Mr. Sampah said the team was preparing for the global tournament scheduled for November 13 to 22, 2026.
He disclosed that the Black Challenge would travel to Turkey for a preparatory camp ahead of the competition, describing the current camping exercise as a significant step in the team’s preparations.
According to him, this is the first time the team has enjoyed an extended period of camping, providing the players with an opportunity to improve their preparations and build the necessary team cohesion ahead of the tournament.
Mr. Sampah expressed confidence in the team’s readiness, noting that the players were in the right frame of mind and that preparations were progressing well.
Ghana, the reigning African champions following their triumph at the African Amputee Cup of Nations, will compete in Group D alongside Angola, Colombia and Iraq.
Mr. Sampah said the team’s ambition was not only to compete but also to reach the final and lift the trophy, adding that a successful campaign could open up opportunities for more players to secure contracts with clubs abroad.
He, however, called on corporate organisations and other stakeholders to support the team as it prepares to represent Ghana on the world stage.
The Media Officer also revealed that efforts were underway to organise amputee football leagues across the regions to identify and develop talented players for the national team.
He said the initiative would help broaden the talent pool and strengthen the future of amputee football in Ghana.
The 2026 World Amputee Football Championship, organised under the World Amputee Football Federation (WAFF), is expected to feature 24 national teams competing for the global title.
The Black Challenge will be hoping to translate its continental success into a strong performance in Mexico and bring further glory to Ghana.
