Residents of Tema Community 3 woke up to scenes of devastation in the early hours of Saturday, 27th June 2026, after a demolition exercise reportedly carried out by security personnel with the support of an excavator destroyed several structures in the area.

According to residents, the exercise began between 3:30 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. They said they were awakened by loud shouts ordering them to vacate their homes. Upon stepping outside, they claimed they saw police officers, military personnel providing security, and an excavator demolishing buildings.

Among the structures reportedly affected was the CAC Church, which residents said was completely demolished. Several homes, shops, and other properties were also pulled down during the operation.

Many of the affected residents were left distraught as they scrambled to salvage their belongings from the rubble. Some expressed concern about where they and their families would spend the night following the demolition.

The residents alleged that they were not given any prior notice before the exercise. They further claimed that the owner of the land had been collecting payments from occupants on a regular basis. According to them, repeated attempts to contact the landowner during the demolition proved unsuccessful.

The affected residents are appealing to the Government, the Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), and the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Lawyer James Enu, to intervene and provide immediate assistance to those whose homes, businesses, and places of worship have been destroyed.

As of the time of filing this report, the authorities had not publicly commented on the demolition exercise or disclosed the reasons behind it.
