Speaking on Plan B FM’s Ebaanosen, hosted by Adomba De-Starboy, Mr. Richard Anning addressed concerns raised by the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mubarak, regarding whistleblowers who allegedly demand money before providing information on corruption.
Mr. Anning explained that such actions are often driven by fear of victimization after exposing corrupt practices. According to him, many potential whistleblowers are reluctant to report wrongdoing because they fear harassment, intimidation, or other forms of retaliation once their identities become known.
He referenced Ghana’s Whistleblower Act, 2006 (Act 720), stressing that the legislation provides legal protection for individuals who disclose information relating to corruption, economic crimes, fraud, and other unlawful activities. He noted that the Act was enacted to encourage citizens to report misconduct without fear of reprisal.
Mr. Anning further explained that the law designates specific institutions to receive and investigate whistleblower reports while safeguarding the confidentiality and security of those who come forward. He emphasized that strengthening public confidence in these protections is essential to encouraging more people to report corruption and ultimately enhancing Ghana’s fight against corruption.
