Ghana U17 coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has expressed strong confidence ahead of the Black Starlets’ return to the 2026 U17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Ghana have been drawn in a competitive Group D alongside Senegal, Algeria and South Africa, setting up a challenging path in their first appearance at the tournament in nearly a decade.

Despite the tough opposition, Ogum believes his side has the quality to compete and make a strong impression.

“Our chances are very high. We believe we have a good team. It’s just unfortunate that we haven’t been there for the last nine years, that’s why you think these teams are ahead of us,” he said on the GFA Podcast, hosted by Patrick Akoto

“When it comes to talent, we have assembled the best for now. We need to trust in the process. We got the data of all these teams, and we are studying them, but for now, we are focusing on ourselves.”

As part of their build-up, the Black Starlets will engage in a double-header international friendly against Ivory Coast, a test expected to give the technical team a clearer picture of the squad ahead of the tournament.

Ghana’s absence from the U17 AFCON in recent years has raised concerns about their standing on the continent, but the coaching staff remain confident that the current group can restore belief and competitiveness.
