A member of the NDC communications team in the Ashaiman Constituency, Joseph Frimpong, has dismissed claims by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) that the government’s Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative is a politically motivated witch-hunt.
According to him, the initiative is not a “payback venture” but a legitimate effort to investigate alleged corruption and recover state funds believed to have been misappropriated under the previous administration.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s Nkosuo Nsem programme hosted by Kofi Sekyi, Mr. Frimpong said the NDC government remains committed to its promise to retrieve public funds allegedly embezzled by former government officials.
His comments come on the back of recent remarks by Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dominic Ayine, who stated that the growing anxiety within the NPP stems from fears of possible prosecution over alleged corruption committed while the party was in power.
Dr. Ayine argued that the opposition’s criticism of the government’s accountability drive is rooted more in fear of legal consequences than genuine political disagreement.
“The NPP’s fear stems from potential jail time for corruption committed under their watch,” he reportedly stated.
The Attorney General further reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the ORAL initiative, describing it as a key accountability programme under the administration of President John Dramani Mahama.
The initiative seeks to investigate and recover assets and funds allegedly lost through procurement breaches, financial mismanagement and other forms of suspected corruption during the previous NPP administration led by former President Nana Akufo-Addo.
However, the NPP has consistently rejected the allegations and accused the government of targeting its members for political reasons. Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin and other party officials maintain that the arrests and investigations involving some NPP figures amount to political persecution rather than a genuine anti-corruption exercise.
