New Patriotic Party (NPP) activist Kweku Osei Korankyi Asiedu, popularly known as KOKA, has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢50,000 after being questioned by law enforcement over allegations of offensive conduct conducive to a breach of the peace, his legal counsel confirmed on Monday, May 25, 2026.

As part of his bail conditions, KOKA is mandated to report back to the Greater Accra Regional Police Command on Friday, May 29, 2026, while the police continue their inquiries.

The police interrogation was prompted by a widely circulated viral video in which the political activist was alleged to have issued threats directed at a police officer during a heated dispute.

Defence cites misunderstood nickname

In response to the actions taken by law enforcement, KOKA’s defence counsel, Enoch Afoakwa, flatly denied the accusations. He clarified that the language used in the footage was directed at an internal NPP security operative who goes by the nickname “Police” or “Boryor”, rather than any member of the Ghana Police Service.

Addressing the issue during an interview on Accra-based radio station Asempa FM, Attorney Afoakwa explained that the context of the conversation had been completely misconstrued due to the use of that specific alias.

“The person involved is part of the party’s internal security structure. The reference was to a nickname and not the Ghana Police Service,” Afoakwa stated.

Cooperation with law enforcement

The defence lawyer characterised the recorded exchange as a “jovial interaction” between political peers rather than a hostile threat aimed at state law enforcement agents.

According to Afoakwa, KOKA voluntarily honoured the police invitation on Monday and maintained full cooperation with the investigating officers throughout the interrogation process.

“He respects the Ghana Police Service and would never threaten any officer,” Afoakwa added.
