A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Douglas Dadzie, has called for stronger systems and stricter enforcement of laws governing the transport sector and other areas of the economy.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s EBAANOSEN, hosted by Ohene Kinnah, Mr Dadzie said Ghana could improve its transportation system by learning from countries where well-structured systems and regulations have been in place for several years.
He shared his experiences with transportation systems in some French-speaking countries, noting that certain transport agencies have operated under clearly defined procedures since as far back as 2004.
According to him, these systems provide clear guidelines for transport operators and help ensure compliance with established laws and regulations.
Mr Dadzie cited his experience in Côte d’Ivoire as an example, saying the country’s approach demonstrates how effective enforcement of regulations can contribute to a more organised transport system and improve public safety.
He therefore called on authorities in Ghana to strengthen law enforcement and establish effective systems that support transport workers while protecting the public.
Mr Dadzie stressed that Ghana does not necessarily have to reinvent the wheel, but can study and adapt successful practices from other countries to strengthen transportation and other public institutions.
