The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed disappointment with the current Minority Leader, describing him as weak. Christian Dela Afetor, the NDC’s communication officer for Tema West Constituency, stated this in an interview with Obidehyeɛ Kofi Sekyi on Plan B FM’s Nkɔsoɔnsɛm show.
Afetor believes the leader has failed to effectively represent the minority’s interests in Parliament, citing a perceived lack of assertiveness and failure to understand the government’s GH₵1.00 Energy Sector Levy (Amendment) Bill, 2025. The NDC is advocating for stronger leadership to challenge government policies effectively.
“This is the first time I am seeing a weak minority leader leading the NPP. At least I saw the leaderships of J.H. Mensah, Akufo-Addo, and Daniel Kwaku Botwe, who were on point but not noisy like Alexander Afenyo Markin,” Afetor said.
“He refuses to understand the rationale behind the proposed Energy Sector Levy (Amendment) Bill, 2025, choosing instead to make noise about it replacing the abolished Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy).”
In response, James William Edem Tamakloe, an NPP communicator for Tema West, stated that the current administration should prosecute ECG officials for alleged corruption, contributing to the debt and introduction of the GH₵1 Energy Sector Levy (Amendment) Bill, 2025, rather than burdening Ghanaians.
“They claim a $3.7 billion debt due to corruption; why doesn’t the administration act against ECG?” Tamakloe questioned. “We must be honest with ourselves.”
