The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested three suspects following the interception of approximately five million tablets of tramadol with an estimated street value of GH¢100 million at Accra International Airport (AIA).
According to NACOC, the arrests were made during an intelligence-led operation after officials intercepted a shipment believed to contain the illicit pharmaceutical drugs. The Commission said the operation forms part of its ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and safeguard public health and national security.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the consignment was intended for distribution within Ghana and possibly across the West African sub-region. Investigators suspect the seizure is linked to a wider drug trafficking network, with efforts underway to identify and apprehend other individuals connected to the operation.
The recovered tramadol tablets have been secured as evidence while forensic analysis and documentary examinations continue to support ongoing investigations.
NACOC reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling drug trafficking syndicates and ensuring that those involved are brought to justice. The Commission also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and assist law enforcement agencies by reporting suspicious activities related to the trafficking of illicit drugs.
The three suspects are expected to be arraigned before court upon the conclusion of investigations, in accordance with Ghana’s narcotics laws.
