President John Dramani Mahama has called for Ghana to begin preparations early for its next major international competitions, expressing confidence that the current Black Stars squad has the potential to win silverware if it remains together.
The President made the remarks while touring the Ho Sports Stadium, where he praised the Black Stars for exceeding expectations at the FIFA World Cup despite being given little chance by many football fans and pundits.
“We need to start preparing for the next World Cup. Nobody gave them a chance, but the Black Stars did well,” President Mahama said.
He stressed the importance of maintaining the current squad and retaining head coach Carlos Queiroz, arguing that continuity will be crucial to Ghana’s future success.
“If we keep this team and persuade Carlos Queiroz to stay, I’m sure that by the next World Cup or AFCON, we can claim the title,” he stated.
President Mahama’s comments reflect growing optimism about the future of the national team following its impressive World Cup campaign and highlight the need for long-term planning, stability, and sustained investment as Ghana sets its sights on future editions of the FIFA World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
