Head coach of Ghana’s Under-17 women’s national team, the Black Maidens, Joe Nana Adarkwa, has praised his players for their performance in their 3-3 draw against Brazil at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
Ghana and Brazil traded goals in an entertaining Group C encounter, with the Maidens fighting back to secure a point after suffering a 3-0 defeat to Norway in their opening match.
Substitute Priscilla Mensah proved decisive, scoring in the 85th minute to earn Ghana a share of the spoils after coming off the bench.
Speaking to FIFA after the match, Adarkwa expressed satisfaction with his team’s overall performance but admitted that missed opportunities prevented them from securing victory.
“We did very well. We are in one of the toughest groups, but I’m proud of my girls,” he said.
“After equalising, we had so many chances, but they are young, they are learning, so we have a lot to do with the girls, but I’m happy for them.”
The Ghana coach also acknowledged Brazil’s quality while expressing confidence in his team’s continued development.
“We are like them, but Brazil are up there. We are getting stronger and we will get there,” Adarkwa added.
The Black Maidens will conclude their Group C campaign against Canada on Saturday, October 24, as they seek to build on the hard-fought draw against Brazil.
