The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has withdrawn its proposal to acquire about three acres of land belonging to the Department of Parks and Gardens at Cantonments in Accra for the construction of its permanent headquarters.
Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Samuel Gyamfi, communicated the decision in a statement dated September 4, 2026, addressed to the Director-General of the Department of Parks and Gardens.
Gyamfi said the proposal contained in GoldBod’s August 20, 2026 letter should now be considered withdrawn and the matter closed.
“We wish to formally withdraw the said proposal forthwith. Accordingly, the proposal contained in our letter of August 20, 2026 should be considered withdrawn, and the matter closed,” he stated.
GoldBod had initially proposed acquiring approximately three acres of the Parks and Gardens land to establish a purpose-built headquarters to accommodate its growing administrative, technical, commercial, regulatory and operational activities.
The proposed arrangement would have required GoldBod to construct a new administrative head office for Parks and Gardens, together with other logistical and ancillary facilities to be agreed upon by the two institutions.
GoldBod had argued that the arrangement would provide both institutions with durable infrastructure while ensuring the land was used for strategic institutional purposes.
However, the proposal attracted public criticism, leading to its withdrawal.
Gyamfi subsequently expressed appreciation to the Department of Parks and Gardens for its cooperation throughout the discussions on the proposed arrangement.
“Please accept the assurances of our highest consideration,” he added.
The decision follows widespread public reaction to the proposed land arrangement, which would have involved GoldBod developing replacement facilities for Parks and Gardens in exchange for the Cantonments property.
